A Victim Impact Panel Volunteer Program

The Victim Impact panel volunteer position would allow you to become involved in the Barron County Restorative Justice Programs, Inc. Volunteering with our programs allows you to take an active role is shaping and developing them. Here are some volunteer opportunities:

1. Speak as a victim or an offender who was a victim of their behavior. The people who speak on our panel find the experience to be difficult yet nurturing. We welcome with open arms anyone who has a tragedy to share that could affect others in their choices to drink and drive.

2. Be in on the interviewing process for the victims and give them a safe place to share their grief.

3. Debriefing the audience (offenders who are required to attend, community members, and sometimes a driver’s education class or a health class from a local high school) after the panel is over.  The audience fills out a questionnaire and gets a chance to ask any questions they might have. You may want to run a discussion with them as well. We have some guidelines from the MADD handbook we follow.

4. Taking care of the victims in the debriefing room. This is their opportunity for bonding with each other and making sure they are not too upset after sharing their stories.  We usually enjoy refreshments and a discussion about our lives and our families.

5. You could help us with the flow by signing in the people when they enter the building. There are forms to fill out, etc.

To what extent you would want to be involved is up to you.

Thanks for considering the opportunity to serve your community by participating with Barron County Restorative Justice Programs, Inc.
