RESTORATIVE JUSTICE TEEN COURT

INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEDURES FOR RESPONDENTS

You are to appear for your Teen Court hearing, accompanied by a parent/guardian, on the date and time on your Notice to Appear in Teen Court.

Please dress appropriately—neat and clean clothes are required; no shorts, hats, or torn clothing; shoes and shirts are required; no gum chewing, smoking, food, or soda allowed.

Check in with the Restorative Teen Court Representative when you arrive at the appointed Teen Court site.

You will then wait in the lobby area for your hearing to be called. Cases will be heard on a first-come, first-serve basis OR as the Teen Court is ready to hear them.  We appreciate your patience if you must wait for your case to be heard. If you arrive after 6:30 PM, there is no guarantee that your case will be heard.

A Restorative Teen Court representative will escort you to the courtroom for your hearing.

Your parents/guardians may sit in the front row of the courtroom.

The Clerk will introduce the case, and swear in the jurors.

You will be sworn in by the Clerk, and then questioned by the defense and prosecution attorneys, or a peer panel. Your parents may be questioned as well.

The jury will receive instructions from the Judge, and be escorted by the Bailiff to the deliberation room.

The Judge will decide if the sanctions are fair, and the Foreperson will read the sanctions.

The court will be dismissed.

You and your parent/guardian will be escorted by Restorative Teen Court Staff to sign the constructive sanction agreement, and go over the completion guidelines.

PLEASE NOTE THAT MANY OF VOLUNTEERS (ADULT AND TEEN) HAVE BEEN CONVENED IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE TEEN COURT HEARING FOR YOU. THEY ARE HERE TO HELP YOU. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF THEIR TIME.
