Protecting Youth in Barron County
Prevention of underage drinking is a priority in Barron County. Collaborating with the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and the Barron County Community Coalition, BCRJP offers the Safe Serve program for restaurant, store or bar owners who are cited for selling alcohol to a person under age 21.
The goal of the Safe Serve program is to educate servers so they can assist in preventing illegal sales and underage consumption.
Circle Group Discussion
In a Circle format, participants, community members and representatives from the Sheriff’s department and the Barron County Community Coalition discuss:
- the participant’s violations in the context of their situations
- the impacts, safety concerns, and community health issues that result from serving minors
- reparation options and future responsibility
The Circle is followed by an interactive presentation on compliance issues such as: how to spot a fake ID, how to read a foreign ID, methods that buyers use to “trick” servers, setting company policies to keep employees safe and establishments in compliance, and other relevant topics.
The fee for this program is $175. The fee may be reduced if the participant attends Safe Serve accompanied by the manager or the owner of the establishment where they work.
