For new volunteers & for personal skill-building
The Restorative Justice Volunteer Training is held four to six times per year in different locations throughout Barron County. The six-hour training, held in two three-hour sessions, centers on devel
oping the core skills needed to facilitate Restorative Conferences (which can involve a variety of combinations of offenders, victims, and community members). Anyone interested in becoming a future volunteer for BCRJP should attend this training. Training is tailored to fit the interests and needs of the participants, and is no cost to Barron County residents.
-
Session 1: An Introduction to Restorative Justice
-
Session 2: Learning to Facilitate a Restorative Conference
The training is highly experiential, and prepares participants to volunteer in any aspect of BCRJP’s programming. Students learn the basic principles of Restorative Justice, practice the skills needed for facilitation, learn about the experience of crime victims, offenders and the effect of crime on the community, and discuss the case development process. At the last session, participants all take part in a role play of a victim/offender case. Not everyone who goes through this training will become a facilitator; some may choose to become a BCRJP community member who can sit in meetings and give voice to concerns and reparation plans.
