SHIFT Youth Drug Program

Sometimes the best way for someone to shift out of high-risk situations is to have a shift in their thinking.

This 4-session workshop will help 8th to 12th grade students learn about the risks and consequences of drug use, understand the effects of marijuana and prescription drug use on the teen brain, evaluate their personal choices, and set goals for the future. The third session requires parent participation and looks at family assets and values. The curriculum is cognitive behavioral theory-based, and is intended for students with low-to-moderate use who do not yet have an addiction.

The class is usually held three times a year at the Cumberland School District Office on successive Thursdays, with a follow-up dialogue meeting one month after completion. The cost of this program is $95, and students may be referred to the program by county agencies, school districts, by BCRJP Community Outreach Workers, Restorative Teen Court, or personal referral.
